Funeral services for Mrs. Uella Agnes Avery of West Monroe, LA will be 2:00pm Sunday, April 23, 2017 at New Chapel Hill in West Monroe, LA with Rev. Werner Aswell officiating. Interment will follow at New Chapel Hill Cemetery in West Monroe, LA under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home West Monroe. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until time of service Sunday at the church.

Mrs. Avery was born July 24, 1926 in Biloxi, MS and passed from this life on April 20, 2017 in Ruston, LA at the age of 90. Before she married, Uella worked for the phone company as a telephone operator. Her early married years were busy living in many places as a military wife and mother, raising her family as her husband Ben served in the United States Air Force. After retiring and settling in Calhoun, LA she was blessed with many grandchildren who were her greatest joy. She enjoyed crochet, needlework, taking care of her home, and spending time with family more than anything. She was a faithful member of New Chapel Hill Baptist Church for many years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, George E. and Edith L. Smith; her husband of 58 years, Benton F. Avery; her daughter, Joan Marie Williams, her granddaughter, Shannon Marie Hudnall; her grandson, Matthew Glen Hagler; her twin sister, Louella; and three brothers, J.B., Jimmy and George, Jr.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara McQuiston and husband Jeff of Downsville; her sons, Jack and wife Lea Ann of Choudrant, and Byron and wife Tammy of Calhoun; granddaughters, JoAnna Cannon and husband Steve, Leslie Newbold and husband David, Calley Douglas, Sadey Douglas, Gracey Avery and Ella Avery; her grandsons, Jeffrey McQuiston, Drew Avery, and Slade Avery; great-grandson, Johnathan Smith; also survived by a host of extended family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Jack Avery, Byron Avery, Jeffrey McQuiston, Drew Avery, Slade Avery and David Newbold.
